Membership costs include a one-time sign-up fee of $400 and annual dues of $495 for a single member or $595 for a family. A link to our membership application and waiver document is below. Download, print the form and fill it out. You can mail it to us at our PO Box or scan it and email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also call our Membership Director (Les) at 250-754-5808. Whichever way you choose we will arrange to meet with you to answer any questions you have and to take your application and fees if you are ready to join the Co-op.
Being a member of the Co-op means getting involved. We are group of dedicated sailors who are also do-it-yourselfers. We maintain our own boats whenever possible. Sometimes we require expertise we don’t have but mostly we fix it, clean it, maintain it, or replace it ourselves. And so when you join the co-op, we ask that you too pitch in and provide what we call sweat equity – your labour and expertise helping out with the maintenance of the boats and the operation of the co-op.
We ask for a minimum annual sweat equity amount – for single members 20 hours, for family memberships 25 hours. Honestly, almost everyone exceeds the minimum, because, well, our Co-op is fun and we all enjoy keeping our boats clean, safe and up to date.
Sweat Equity can be earned by participating in organized work parties at our Spring Haulouts, at our Spring and Winter conditioning sessions and at our mid-Summer clean ups
The Co-op has an executive of seven elected directors. As well, there are a number of additional volunteer positions available.
Single members are entitled to 300 hours of sailing per season and Family members are entitled to 400 hours. You can also take guests up to 3 times per year.
The Van Isle Sailing Co-op is based in Nanaimo but we do have and do consider members from other areas of the Island if practical.
