About the Co-op
The Van Isle Sailing Co-op is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sport of sailing and the cooperative ownership of boats. The annual membership dues are used to maintain the boats and pay for moorage and insurance. You will have the opportunity to sail with experienced sailors, learn how to look after boats and participate in social events throughout the year.
Learning to Sail
Sailing experience is not needed to join the Co-op. New members will learn by crewing with experienced sailors. If you wish to pursue sailing accreditations through local sailing schools you have the ideal platform to practice and enjoy what you have learned.
Our Fleet
Our current fleet consists of three Catalina 27’s and one Catalina 28, all available for local day sails or overnight cruising.
Meetings and Social Events
Co-op meetings are held once a month, on the FIRST Thursday at the Kin Hut, Departure Bay Rd, Nanaimo at 7:00 pm. The meetings bring the membership up to date with the business of the Co-op and often feature guest speakers. Coffee and cookies are always included. Social events include pub nights, picnics, work parties, barbeques and a Christmas Party.
